This year provides the perfect framework for launching the new event, as
the United Nations has declared 2010 to be the International Year of
Biodiversity. Our festival, too, is a celebration of the variety of
life, offering a diversified range of films and related events.
Here around lake Saimaa we have our own, endangered species: the saimaannorppa seal. It is estimated, that nowadays there remain only about 260 of them. Issues conscerning our saimaannorppa-seal are rather controversial, in many respects. Through the festivals, we want to draw positive attention to it - our ”guest of honor”.
